Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from my first therapy session?

It’s completely normal to feel a bit apprehensive about your first therapy session, and many clients wonder what to expect. During your initial session, your therapist’s primary goal is to get to know you and understand what brought you to therapy. They will take the time to explore your goals for therapy and gain a deeper understanding of who you are. This may involve questions about key aspects of your life, including relationships, work, school, and background. You will also have the opportunity to ask your therapist questions, helping you feel more comfortable and familiar with the therapy process.

If your child or teen is attending their first session, the clinician will begin by inviting both of you into the office to review important information about confidentiality. Afterward, it will be up to your child or teen to decide if they feel comfortable continuing the session independently. For younger clients, the primary goal of the first session is to establish a strong therapeutic rapport while also gaining a clear understanding of their goals for therapy.

Do I attend sessions with my child or teen?

At Connected Care Counseling, we believe that parental involvement is crucial for a child's continued growth in therapy. Your clinician will recommend specific strategies to best support your child’s progress which may include attending a session together or scheduling individual parent sessions. As part of our commitment to supporting the entire family system, we connect with parents at least every 4-6 weeks to discuss progress and provide recommendations for moving forward. If you have specific information to share with your therapist, please use the secure messaging portal on Simple Practice to ensure confidentiality.

What insurance do you take?

Currently, Connected Care Counseling is an out-of-network provider. This means you will need to contact your insurance provider directly to understand their reimbursement policies for out-of-network services. On the 15th of each month, you will receive a superbill via your client portal (or by email, if you’ve selected that option). The superbill will include all necessary details, such as tax ID information, diagnostic codes, and procedural codes, to help you submit for insurance reimbursement.
